Using LinkedIn to build your business

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

LinkedIn for your business

One of the things I love about social media marketing is that you can reach such a wide audience, did you know LinkedIn currently has over 610 million members worldwide?

If you offer a B2B service or product, LinkedIn has some amazing opportunities as it’s solely a business platform.

"80% of their social media leads come from LinkedIn, say B2B marketers." SocialPilot

I’m not a LinkedIn trainer or expert, but I’ve been using the platform for a while and would like to share with you some suggestions on how to make sure you are getting the most out of it.

Optimise your profile

Your profile is essentially the online version of your 60 seconds or elevator pitch and provides people with a summary of what your business does and the service or product it provides.

Use an up-to-date photo and personalise your background image, often called the banner. Profiles with the standard LinkedIn blue background just don't stand out, plus it's another great opportunity to sell your service. You can look at my profile here.

Your Headline is arguably one of the most important parts of your profile. Alongside your photo, it is the snippet of text that is always seen, as it appears every time you comment or post. Use keywords in your headline, the skills and services that you want to be known for. The first five or six words are the most important as that’s all that is visible when viewed on mobile (unless they visit your full profile).

Connect to your ideal client

An advantage with LinkedIn is that you can build your preferred audience by connecting with the type of people that you want to reach.

"When you have already built a solid foundation of connections and your audience has become familiar with you and your brand, you are much more likely to be able to sell tickets to your event." From my blog, The benefits of social media marketing for your training business.

Engage every day

Networking online is all about engaging with your connections. The conversations you have, the one-to-ones and articles that you post all help to build your credibility.

Talk about what you do, what your clients need help with and how your service or product has helped them. Answer questions, share your knowledge and go behind the scenes, show the effort behind the service.

What I most enjoy about LinkedIn is the sense of community. The conversations are engaging and interesting and there is always something new to learn.

LinkedIn is the perfect place to find leads and new business opportunities.
